2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs 2016 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid
The introduction of the brand-new RAV4 Hybrid was one of the most exciting moments of the 2016 model year, and now the incredible compact hybrid crossover is back for another exciting year. While admittedly it is quite the reach, we wanted to see how the new 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid measures up to one of the only remaining competitors we haven’t yet compared it to: the 2016 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid. While you’re probably not trying to decide between a Toyota and a Porsche, we thought it would be cool and enlightening to show the advantages that the RAV4 Has over the Cayenne Hybrid anyways.
Advantages of the 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Looking at the table above, it becomes pretty clear that the RAV4 Hybrid certainly does trump the Cayenne Hybrid in a number of fields. Obviously, the luxury Porsche crossover is offering some things that the Toyota just can’t compete with, but when it comes to barebones specifications, the RAV4 Hybrid has a few tricks up its sleeves, starting with fuel efficiency – probably the most important aspect of a hybrid vehicle, no matter what size or shape.
The first row of the table depicts the combined average of both city and highway fuel efficiency, and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid utilizes an astounding 4.7 litres less fuel to drive the same 100-kilometre distance as the Porsche Cayenne Hybrid. With luxury vehicles focusing more on power and premium content, this isn’t necessarily surprising, but the steepness of the advantage is eye-opening.
As we said, luxury vehicles like the Porsche focus on power. So again, it’s no surprise that the Cayenne Hybrid offers 139 horsepower more than the RAV4 Hybrid. However, the next row shows that the Toyota crossover does weight a whopping 1,256 lbs. less than the Porsche, which will drastically reduce that horsepower advantage – as the lighter a vehicle is, the less power it needs to deliver a similarly enjoyable experience behind the wheel.
To finish things off, the RAV4 Hybrid offers an extra 15.1 cubic feet of space behind the back row of seats, another extremely important factor in hybrid crossovers like these. So you see, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 has a lot to offer.
