For decades, Toyota has been synonymous with hybrid. The Toyota Prius was the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle on the market, and the company has continued to make strides in hybrid technology ever since. Hybrid crossovers and utility vehicles are still relatively rare, but Toyota offers a couple of them, including the 2018 Toyota Highlander Hybrid in Edmonton AB.
The Highlander Hybrid offers everything good about the 2018 Highlander, but makes it even more efficient thanks to its Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain. We thought we’d take a look at some of the different specs & features that make the Highlander Hybrid such an excellent option in the midsize crossover segment, particularly details regarding its hybrid powertrain.
The Highlander Hybrid’s HSD powertrain consists of an electric motor tethered to a 3.5L V6 engine, giving it the perfect combination of performance and efficiency. To be more specific, the Hybrid Synergy Drive combination nets a total of 306 horsepower while still achieving 8.1 l/100km through city streets and 8.5 l/100km on the highway. While that only 0.2 l/100km less than the regular Highlander utilizes on the highway, it’s 3.7 l/100km less fuel through the city.
Of course, efficiency and power aren’t the only impressive aspects of the 2018 Highlander Hybrid. There are also plenty of different features both inside and out that make the Highlander Hybrid such an excellent option, not the least of which is its standard Toyota Safety Sense P package. TSS-P includes the Pre-Collision System among other great driver-assistive, collision-avoidance technologies.
