Advantages of the 2017 Toyota 4Runner
The table above analyzes some of the most important specifications in vehicles like these two, so we thought we’d work our way through row by row to give you a better idea of how the two SUVs stack up to one another. So starting with the first row, we’ll take a look at the two SUVs’ power ratings. The two vehicles are powered by very similar engines, but the Explorer does offer 20 extra horsepower, which is a decent chunk. However, the 4Runner’s engine offers an extra 23 pound-feet of torque, evening the playing field quite a bit.
So since power turned out to be somewhat of a wash, we decided to turn to fuel efficiency in the second row, but unfortunately the Explorer trumped the Toyota by utilizing 0.9 litres less fuel to travel the same 100 kilometres. So finally we decided to look at space, crossing our fingers that despite the fact that the Explorer belongs to a larger segment the 4Runner would still surprise us, and it did. Behind the back row, the 4Runner offers an extra 26.2 cubic feet of space to fill with your gear, luggage or whatever you need to bring along with you. Drop the back seats down, and the 4Runner still offers an extra 8 cu. ft.
While that’s not quite as steep, it’s still a nice advantage. So if power and efficiency advantages aren’t that important to you, and you know you’ll need all the space for gear that you can get, then considering scheduling a test drive behind the wheel of a 2017 Toyota 4Runner right here on our website.
