2017 Toyota Yaris Hatchback vs 2017 Ford Fiesta
Just because a vehicle is small, doesn’t mean it can’t also be spacious. There are plenty of subcompact hatchbacks out on the market that give drivers all the benefits of driving a tiny car, while still offering plenty of space to fit a couple of passengers in the back seat or pack the cargo hold full of luggage or groceries. We thought we’d see how our favorite subcompact hatchback sedan measures up to one of the most popular on the market by comparing the 2017 Toyota Yaris Hatchback vs 2017 Ford Fiesta.
Advantages of the 2017 Toyota Yaris Hatchback
As you can tell be glancing up at the table above, the two hatchbacks are extremely comparable to one another, with each having their own advantages over the other. We thought we’d start with the first row and work our way down to give you a better idea of where each vehicle excels and where they fall short. The first row takes a look at combined fuel efficiency, in which the Yaris Hatchback pulls through by utilizing 0.4 litres less fuel to drive the same 100 kilometres as the Ford Fiesta. That’s going to translate to some savings at the gas pump over time, plus it’s a bit more environmentally conscious.
The second row looks at power, where the Fiesta fires back by offering an extra 14 horsepower. However, what’s not pictures here, is that the Toyota Yaris Hatchback weighs exactly 202 pounds less than the Ford Fiesta, which would trim quite a bit off of the Fiesta’s already-low advantage in horsepower. After that, the Fiesta probably only offers a couple of extra horsepower worth of a power advantage, which would hardly be noticeable in a side-by-side comparison.
Which leaves us with space. Behind their back seats, the Yaris Hatchback offers an extra 0.4 cubic feet of space for your cargo, and in the cabin the Fiesta offers an extra 0.3 cu. ft. In other words, space is pretty much a tossup. Neither advantage is exactly substantial, so neither one changes the game. This comes down to whether you’d rather save a bit of change at the gas pump over time, or have a few extra horsepower. If you choose the former, then be sure to schedule a test drive right here on our website so we can get you behind the wheel of a new 2017 Toyota Yaris Hatchback as soon as possible.
