2017 Toyota Tundra vs 2017 GMC Sierra 1500
While there aren’t quite as many different segments in the pickup truck game as in other markets like cars or utility vehicles, there are still plenty of great trucks out there on the market. We offer two different sized trucks right here at Wheaton Toyota on the Trail – the recently-redesigned midsize Tacoma, and the full-size 2017 Toyota Tundra. We wanted to see how our big truck fares against one of its biggest competitors, the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500, so we looked at some of the most important aspects in trucks like these and compared them to one another.
Advantages of the 2017 Toyota Tundra
The table above depicts these important aspects by listing the specifications and features of each truck, and as you can see the Toyota Tundra trumps the GMC Sierra in every area. Beneath the hood of the Toyota Tundra lies a 5.7L V8 engine while the GMC Sierra houses a 4.3L V6. Already, the Sierra 1500 is at a huge disadvantage just based on the size of the engine.
But now let’s look at what the engines combined with the architecture of the trucks allow them to do, starting with horsepower. Power is important in and of itself, but also the more power a truck offers the better its capabilities. The Tundra offers an extra 96 horsepower, which is a pretty substantial advantage, and it translates into the next two rows which analyze the two trucks’ capabilities.
First, payload is how much weight the bed can handle in terms of the cargo you load into it. The Tundra can accommodate 2,080 lbs. which is 120 lbs. more than the Sierra 1500. As for towing capacity, without a doubt one of the most important specs & features of a truck, the Toyota Tundra can haul 1,600 lbs. more weight in a trailer behind it.
These advantages all add up to a superior truck, plus the Tundra offers outstanding safety features and a host of other great stuff both on the interior and exterior.
