2017 Toyota Sienna vs 2017 Chevy Suburban
For several years now, the minivan that we offer here at Wheaton Toyota on the Trail has been known as the Swagger Wagon. One of the reasons minivans lost traction in the market was because they weren’t quite as stylish as other vehicles out there, like SUVs. The Swagger Wagon has looked to change that with hip stylings and design cues. But style isn’t the only thing picking up, as the Toyota Sienna also delivers superior specifications to many other vehicles on the market, and we thought we’d prove it by pitting the 2017 Toyota Sienna vs 2017 Chevy Suburban.
Advantages of the 2017 Toyota Sienna
Like we mentioned, the Sienna and Suburban belong to two very different segments that, while different, have the same goals in mind. Both were built to be quite good at moving inordinate amounts of people and stuff, but one does it more efficiently while offering even more space to fill, and you can tell which by glancing at the table above.
The first row shows just how efficient the Swagger Wagon is, as it achieves 10.2 l/100km combined. That means it utilizes 1.9 litres less fuel than the Suburban for every 100 kilometres driven. While being more efficient is always a big victory, in this case it isn’t the most important aspect of the two vehicles. Fortunately for the Toyota Sienna, it also delivers more max cargo capacity and passenger volume.
With all of the seats folded flat, the Sienna offers an extra 28.3 cubic feet of space to fill with whatever you need. Even more importantly, with the seats unfolded, the Sienna offers an extra 42.0 cu. ft. of space for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in. On family road trips and the like, that’s extremely important.
The Suburban does fire back in one aspect, though it’s not depicted here. The Chevy utility vehicle offers 355 horsepower, which is 89 HP more than the Sienna offers. While that’s normally a pretty big advantage, its lessened quite a bit by the fact that the Sienna weighs 1,212 lbs. less than the Chevy Suburban. Less weight means less power necessary to do the same kinds of things.
