2016 Toyota Yaris vs 2016 Chevy Sonic
As you may be aware, Toyota partnered up with Mazda to recreate the Yaris and Mazda2 for the 2016 model year. Both vehicles are essentially the same now, outside of cosmetic differences that set the two brands apart. So while it would be silly to compare these two vehicles to one another, there are still plenty of other subcompact sedans out there on the market to rival the Yaris. We thought we’d see how our favorite measures up to one of these rivals by comparing the 2016 Toyota Yaris vs 2016 Chevy Sonic..
Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Yaris
With a glance at the table above once can see that each vehicle has its own strength. Starting from the top, the Yaris is certainly the more efficient of the two vehicle. Through city streets the Yaris utilizes 2.4 litres less fuel every 100 kilometres driven, and it uses 1.1 l/100km less on the highway. After a while, those advantages are going to add up to quite a bit of savings on gasoline. Of course, in order to get those savings, you do have to give up a bit of power.
The all-new Toyota Yaris only offers 106 horsepower, which isn’t a lot. The Chevy Sonic doesn’t blow power out of the water either, but it does offer an extra 32 horses which means it will deliver a more enjoyable driving experience. However, that advantage is severely crippled when you consider the fact that the Yaris happens to weigh 337 lbs. less than its adversary the Sonic. The less a vehicle weighs, the less power it needs to do the same things as a heavier vehicle. Thus the Sonic’s power advantage isn’t quite as appealing as you might think.
