2016 Toyota Tacoma vs 2016 Ford F-150
The Toyota Tacoma has been around for a long time. At least, over two decades feels like a long time. After being completely overhauled for the 2016 model year, we wanted to see how our favorite midsize truck holds up against the big dog, so we decided to compare the 2016 Toyota Tacoma vs 2016 Ford F-150. One thing to note is that the F-150 is a full-size, so it’s a bit bigger and more powerful. What we didn’t realize is that two decades is apparently nothing, as the Ford F-series has been around since 1948, nearly 70 years..
Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Tundra
The one area we assumed the Tacoma would have a leg up was in terms of fuel efficiency, not only because Toyota is known for providing some of the most economical vehicles on the market, but because of the simple fact that it’s a smaller truck. We weren’t wrong, as the Tacoma utilizes 0.7 l/100km less fuel through the city, saving a bit of change at the pump each month.
Another thing we didn’t expect in all honesty, was for the Tacoma to compete so closely in terms of power. The F-150 is one of the big three trucks, and it’s physically larger than the Tacoma, so we were thrilled to see that at their base levels, the Tacoma generates just 4 less horsepower than the F-150 and actually doles out an extra 12 pound-feet of torque.
Additionally, Toyota now offers the Tacoma with its Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assistive features like the Pre-Collision System and Adaptive Cruise Control, whereas Ford just offers a few assorted features like Lane Departure warning and the like rather than having a full package.
