2016 Toyota Sienna vs 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan
Every time we talk about the Toyota Sienna we mention the fact that minivans aren’t as popular as they once were. We aren’t saying that fact is going to change overnight, but we do think vehicles like the Swagger Wagon are doing their best to bring them back. But while a resurgence of minivans could be on the horizon, we still think that the Sienna is one of the best options in the segment, precisely why we thought we’d stack up the 2016 Toyota Sienna vs 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, to show you why we think it’s the better option.
Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Sienna
Starting from the top of the table above, the Toyota Sienna comes out of the gate with superior combined fuel efficiency. 0.3 l/100km isn’t a huge advantage, but in the long term if you’re doing an equal amount of highway and city driving then that might pay off in some gas-station savings. Unfortunately, the Dodge minivan does fire back with superior horsepower, though much like the Swagger Wagon’s small efficiency advantage, the Grand Caravan’s extra 17 horsepower isn’t going to make a huge difference.
Where the 2016 Toyota Sienna truly takes off is in terms of space, considering it offers great cargo capacity both behind the back seat, and with all of the seats folded flat. Behind that third row the Sienna offers an extra 6.1 cu. ft. of cargo capacity, and with every seat folded down it offers an extra 6.2 cu. ft. Those are pretty sizeable advantages, allowing you to fit more luggage or whatever it is you need to bring along.
When you add Toyota’s superior safety standard to the mix, we think it is clear that the 2016 Sienna is the better minivan choice between these two. If you think you might agree, feel free to come in for a test drive and feel it out for yourself.
