2016 Toyota Sequoia vs 2016 Kia Sorento
You might be aware of the fact that crossovers were one of the reasons minivans started disappearing, but did you realize they’re also part of the reason why regular old Sport Utility Vehicles have seen a decline the past several years as well? Even still, there are a handful of SUVs out there standing tall, and the Toyota Sequoia is among them. We wanted to see how the full-size SUV measured up to one of its crossover competitors, so we decided to compare the 2016 Toyota Sequoia vs 2016 Kia Sorento.
The Sorento is actually a midsize crossover, so it is slightly smaller, but it’s the biggest vehicle available on the Kia lineup. The Sequoia has been around since 2001 and is about due for a major overhaul sometime within the next couple of years
Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Sequoia
Looking at the table above, you can see that there are still plenty of reasons to go with an SUV over a crossover. While crossovers offer a sleeker style, SUVs like the Sequoia tend to provide more power and capabilities. Starting from the top of the table, the Toyota Sequoia offers 91 more horsepower than the Kia Sorento generates, which translates into more power and a more enjoyable driving experience every time you get behind the wheel.
Of course, the Sequoia also offers more space than the Sorento, mostly due to belonging to a slightly bigger class. Behind the back row of seats, the Sequoia offers an extra 7.6 cubic feet of space to fill with luggage or whatever you might need to bring along with you. Drop the back seats flat and the Sequoia provides 47.2 cu. ft. more than the Sorento. Space is important in utility vehicles like these, as you wouldn’t be looking at a large vehicle if you didn’t think you’d be carting around a lot of stuff fairly often.
Lastly, the Sequoia also provides an extra 3,900 lbs. of towing capacity for those trips when you need to drag along something more than the car can provide – be it a boat, a camper or anything similar.
