2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid vs 2016 Volvo XC90 Hybrid
For the 2017 model year, the Toyota Highlander has undergone some pretty substantial upgrades, both cosmetically and in other aspects of the vehicle. We’ve got our fingers crossed that the Highlander Hybrid will follow suit, but for now there has been no information. But we still wanted to show just how great the 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is, even without the upgrades, so we thought we’d see how it measures up against the 2016 Volvo XC90 Hybrid.
Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
As you can tell from one glance at the table above, each vehicle has its definite advantages, but the two are quite comparable to one another in almost every aspect. We thought we’d start right away at the top of the table and make our way down, so fuel efficiency comes up first. Obviously, fuel efficiency is probably the most important specification to look at in a hybrid vehicle. A hybrid utility vehicle still isn’t going to be quite as efficient as a hybrid sedan, but they’re still much more efficient than standard crossovers and SUVs. In this case, the Highlander Hybrid achieves 8.6 l/100km, which is 1.2 l/100km less the XC90 Hybrid.
However, the Volvo crossover fires right back with an extra 120 horsepower. That’s a huge advantage when it comes to power, even in these heavy utility vehicles. The only bright spot in this regard for the Highlander Hybrid is the next row of the table, curb weight. The Highlander weighs 198 lbs. less than the XC90, so the horsepower advantage is dampened a bit, but the Volvo still delivers far more power.
Yet the Highlander Hybrid has its own substantial advantage as well. If fuel efficiency is the most important aspect in a hybrid utility vehicle, then space is probably in second place. In the Highlander Hybrid, you’ll have an extra 35.3 cubic feet of space for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in. So if you prefer greater fuel efficiency and passenger volume to power, then be sure to schedule a test drive for the 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid right here on our website so that you can come try one out for yourself.
