2016 Toyota Avalon vs 2016 Lexus GS
Back in 1994, a flagship was born as Toyota needed to find a replacement for its discontinued Cressida sedan. What they created was the Toyota Avalon, and two decades later it sits atop the Toyota lineup of small cars as the crown jewel. Always packed with the best features, the most impressive specifications and of course the biggest sedan available, the vehicle is practically a luxury car. With that in mind, we thought we’d see how it fares stacked against a real luxury vehicle, by comparing the 2016 Toyota Avalon vs 2016 Lexus GS 200t.
In 2015, Toyota gave the Avalon a facelift for the now-current 2016 model year. Adopting a fresher look and a few new features, the new sedan will soon become available here at Toyota on the Trail. Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Avalon
The obvious advantage that the Lexus has over our Toyota flagship sedan is its name. The Lexus brand has developed a reputation, and if you are the type of driver who likes a flashy vehicle that is going to attract looks by name alone, then the Toyota Avalon might not do that for you. However, if things like that don’t really matter to you, then consider checking out the table above, where that 2016 Toyota Avalon’s advantages become quite obvious.
For starters, the Avalon has a 27-horsepower boost over the sporty Lexus GS 200t – 200t being the trim level we looked at for this comparison. While that wouldn’t make a mind-blowing difference, 27 horsepower is quite the advantage, delivering a more enjoyable driving experience for anyone who likes that rush of power. But to make matters even worse for the GS 200t, the Avalon also weighs over 325 pounds less, which means it doesn’t need as much power to get its weight up and moving.
As for cargo capacity, the Lexus GS barely squeaks out an advantage. Lexus hasn’t released the specification for passenger volume, but we assume it will be right around the same as the Avalon. So if you prefer power to actual-luxury status, the 2016 Toyota Avalon is definitely the right vehicle for you.
