2016 Toyota Avalon vs 2016 Ford Taurus
The Toyota Avalon became the brand’s flagship sedan back in 1994, when it was first introduced – as the same full-size, 4-door sedan that it is today. Always packed with top-of-the-line features and specifications, the premium Avalon has been and still is a force to be reckoned with in the sedan market. We wanted to see how it measured up to another iconic flagship sedan on the market, so we decided to compare the 2016 Toyota Avalon vs 2016 Ford Taurus. Both sedans received attention heading into the 2016 model year, as the Avalon underwent a facelift and the Taurus entered its seventh generation.
Advantages of the 2016 Toyota Avalon
As you can see by a glance up to the table above, the two flagship sedans are quite comparable to one another. Instead of going into detail on all of the premium features each sedan offers, as they are probably quite similar with them both being the best their brands have to offer, lets simply focus on what this comparison really boils down to: fuel efficiency vs power.
Toyota is known for offering some of the most fuel efficient vehicles in the world. After all, they create the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. This case is no different than most of the others, as the Avalon utilizes 1.2 l/100km less fuel than the Taurus through cities, and 0.5 l/100km less on the highway. The Taurus doesn’t have the worst fuel efficiency on the market, but it certainly won’t be saving you much money at the gas pump, not compared to the Avalon.
However, the Taurus fires back with a similar advantage in the form of 20 horsepower and 6 pound-feet of torque. This advantage doesn’t seem quite as big as the efficiency gap, though, and it is lessened even more when considering the fact that the Avalon weighs 508 lbs. less than its competitor. That’s going to significantly reduce the power advantage, leaving the Avalon with the clear advantage in terms of efficiency.
If you think a vehicle with a healthy boost in efficiency that doesn’t give up much power is the right full-size sedan for you, then look no further than the 2016 Toyota Avalon. Be sure to schedule a test drive here on our website if you might be interested, or give us a call with any questions.
