It’s been said that there are still remnants in all of us of the kids we once were, and if you won’t take our word for it, we suggest you head to your nearest waterpark. You’ll see dads outrunning their kids — strictly against the rules, by the way — to get in line, hear moms shrieking as they plummet down speed slides, and witness grandparents reclaiming their lost youths in wave pools. It’s beautiful, quite frankly. But where should you go this summer to enjoy a waterpark for yourself? From your friends here at Go Toyota on the Trail, here are our picks for the best waterparks near Edmonton, AB.
We may as well start with the obvious. World Waterpark has many impressive bullet points on its resume, including its status as the second-largest indoor waterpark in the world and the largest in the western hemisphere. It also features the world’s largest indoor wave pool, along with 17 different slides and attractions. Of course, if you’re looking to venture into the sunshine, you may want to head elsewhere.
Located to the south in Sylvan Lake, Wild Rapids has offered outdoor entertainment for Albertans for 34 years. Unfortunately, it’s been reported that this year will be its last, giving nostalgic travelers one last summer to enjoy this iconic waterpark. With its central location between Edmonton and Calgary, the loss of this park will leave a large void for kids of all ages.
While not technically under the umbrella of “waterpark,” this underground aquarium is a must-see for anyone who would prefer to watch others play and get wet. Namely, they’ll be watching more than 100 species of fish, sharks, penguins and more frolic in a facsimile of their natural habitat. For those of us who remember building dioramas or dreaming of a career in marine biology, this one isn’t to be missed.
What if you’d like to get into the sun and spray, but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg to do so? At Woodlands Water Play Park, you won’t have to pay any admission, and you’ll enjoy the ability to relax every bit as much as you play. This one is ideal for young children and families, and is situated adjacent to a skate park and sand volleyball courts.
So which of these will you attend? All of them? We hope that these attractions provide you with an extra portion of summer fun, and that you’ll come see us soon at Go Toyota on the Trail!
