What will happen to the Scion FR-S?
As you have probably heard by now, the Scion brand is being discontinued, and will completely stop production come August of this year. This revelation has left many with one important question – what will happen to the Scion FR-S? As we mentioned earlier this week, a couple of the more popular vehicles from the lineup will be rebadged and added to the Toyota lineup for the 2017 model year. That’s great news for fans of the popular Scion sports car, because the Scion FR-S is one of those vehicles that will be carried over. As a matter of fact, the Scion FR-S is already a member of the Toyota family in other global markets, like in Europe where it is known as the Toyota GT86 or in Nicaragua where it’s called the Toyota FT86.
There’s a good chance that when the FR-S is rebadged this time around, it will keep its FR-S title in order to better retain those customers who know it as the Scion FR-S. But there’s also a good chance that Toyota will just stick with what it already has, and bring the Toyota 86 name here from the Asian market.
No matter what, we’re simply excited that the sporty powerhouse will remain a viable option for our customers here in Edmonton. If you have any questions about the transition of Scion to Toyota, or are looking for more details about the Scion FR-S joining the Toyota lineup, you can give the Wheaton Toyota on the Trail sales team a call and we’d be glad to try and help you. Otherwise, you can simply stay tuned to the blog here, where we’ll be bringing you the latest news as it happens.
