Signs You Need New Tires
Whether your vehicle is brand new or you’ve had it a few years, there are many maintenance issues you should be paying attention to. One of these is making sure your tires are in good condition and getting them replaced with necessary. We’re going to help you figure out if your vehicles needs new tires by outlining five signs to look for that will indicate if you need new tires.
Tread Depth
The tread on your tires should never fall below 1.6 millimeters in depth. If you drive regularly on slick, wet, surfaces, you might even want twice that. You can buy a gauge to measure tread depth or bring it into the Go Toyota on the Trail service department.
Tread Wear Indicator Belt
Many tires now have tread wear indicator bars built into the tire themselves. These bars gradually appear as the tread wears down. They appear as flat rubber bars running perpendicular to the direction of the tread itself. If more than one or two of these is visible, the tread is getting low and you might want to think about getting new tires.
Cracks in the Sidewall
Another sure sign that your tires need to be replaced in cracks in the sidewall. You should get in the habit of checking your tires for tracks or cuts in the sidewall. They are grooves that are distinct enough to be visible to the naked eye. If the cracks are serious enough, it might be time to take your vehicle to get new tires.
Bulges and Blisters on the Tire
While you are checking for cracks in the sidewall, you can also look for bulges and blisters that extends outward from the rest of the surface. These weak spots can cause a sudden blow out so it’s best to take them to a tire/service place before that has a chance to happen.
Too Much Vibrations
If you noticed your vehicle is vibrating more than usual, it could be because your tires are misaligned or unbalanced, or your shock absorbers are starting to go. Even if your tires are the source of the vibration, they could get damaged because of them. If you vehicle has a bad case of the shakes, it might be time to make a service appointment.
