Winter Walk Day in Edmonton
Here in Edmonton, winter is in full swing, and it’ll still be here for a few more weeks, so instead of getting the winter blues, we suggest embracing it! Here at Toyota on the Trail, we understand the struggle of staying positive and cheerful during the winter season, but we’re here to brighten your spirits. One way to get motivated this winter season is by participating in the Winter Walk Day in Edmonton.
Winter Walk Day is an annual event that encourages Albertans to talk outdoors for a minimum of 15 minutes. Winter Walk Day is sponsored by Safe Healthy Active People Everywhere (SHAPE), a program that encourages Albertans to choose safe, healthy, active modes of transportation on a regular basis. It always takes place on the first Wednesday of February and thousands of Albertans participate. This event helps encourage walking because it is good for our health, the environment and helps strengthen community bonds. In past years, 393 schools, 112 workplaces and 114 community groups have participated in Winter Walk Day.
This year the event is taking place on Wednesday February 4th with a special walk taking place in Downtown Edmonton. The walk at this location will begin at noon at the City Hall Plaza (South steps). There is no registration required and the first 150 walkers will be awarded with free giveaways. Walkers are encouraged to come prepared with weather appropriate clothing, water bottles, comfortable shoes and lots of energy. Participates are also encouraged to share their experience via social media using the hashtag ‘#winterwalkday’.
Here at Toyota Scion on the Trail, we encourage all Alberta residences to step up and participate in Winter Walk Day. It’s a great way to share a conversation and a good time with your coworkers, friends, family and fellow community members.
