Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up in Edmonton
This year is flying by and it’s already time to start thinking about the holidays. The commercials have started and the decorations are coming out. That means it’s time for the annual Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up in Edmonton. This is a fun family friendly tradition that will be sure to get you in the holiday mood. The Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up marks the official start of the holiday season in Edmonton. It takes place on Saturday November 15 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Churchill Square. The event is full of free family activities, live entertainment and treats from local food trucks in Downtown Edmonton.
Inside City Hall, there will a kids area set up for the duration of the event. Children can participate in balloon artists, live entertainment and more. There will also be choirs, clowns, mascots and food trucks located on Churchill Square. There will be live music all evening at the Churchill Square Main Stage. Performances will include Asim Chin, Kappella Kyrie Slavic Chamber Choir, Darrel Barr, U of A Mixed Choir, Booming Tree Taiko and will conclude with Mayor Iveson welcoming Santa at 6:30 p.m.
Santa will then wave the magic wand to light up the giant spruce tree decorated with more than 14 thousand LED lights, snowflakes, sparkles and stars. After the tree is lit, there will be a fireworks show to close the night. The tree will also be lit up nightly at dusk throughout the holiday season so if you miss the official lighting you can still enjoy it for weeks to come.
