What Does this Light Mean in My Toyota?
Every once in a while, when you least expect it, a peculiar light reveals itself on your dashboard. You panic wondering if it’s the symbol that predicts your imminent doom. Your mind automatically travels to worst case scenarios. Your car is about to explode. Your engine is on its death bed. Your tires are about to detach themselves and roll away. While these things aren’t likely to happen, the lights that come on your dashboard do actually mean something and it’s important to know what that is. Here at Toyota on the Trail we’re going to answer the question: What does that light mean in my Toyota?
The first thing to note is that there are actually two sets of lights, indicator lights and warning lights. Today we’ll take at look at the warning lights which generally mean immediate attention is required.
This light signifies an issue with your anti-lock braking system or the brake assist system. Ignoring an issue with your brakes can be very dangerous, so it’s best to get this issue checked out before continuing to drive.
This symbol represents your car’s battery. It most likely indicates a malfunction in your vehicle’s charging system. Your best bet is to drive directly to a place like Toyota on the Trail to get it checked out.
This image might look like a pokeball, but it actually represents your steering wheel. This light warns you that your electric power steering is malfunctioning. Another issue you don’t want to drive around with.
This light pictures an oil can dripping. This indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low. This can be an easy fix if you keep a bottle of oil and a funnel in the trunk of your vehicle.
This is a little icon of a vintage gas pump and I bet you can guess what it means. That’s right, you’re almost out of gas. Drive directly to the nearest gas station or find yourself stranded.
This fountain looking picture is actually a representation of your windshield and washer fluid. This is probably the most minor alert that can appear. It simply means you are low on washer fluid. While it is important to have washer fluid in your vehicle, it won’t prevent you from driving.
This one is pretty straight forward. MAINT REQD is an abbreviation for Maintenance Required. It lights up to remind you that there is some sort of maintenance required according to the driven distance on the maintenance schedule.
This is a more comically looking icon as it looks like a person is about to be hit in the face by a large ball, but it actually represents a malfunction in your supplemental restraint system airbags. It indicates that there is an issue with the front passenger occupant classification system or the seatbelt pretensioner system.
The last common warning light is this exclamation point above tire treads. It indicates that one or more of your tires has low tire inflation pressure. This can easily be fixed by stopping at a gas station that has a air pressure tester.
